Vloggercon 2006 is SOLD OUT!!!!!!!

June 6th, 2006

Though we wish we could accommodate everyone in person, we won’t be able to but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of the fun. We will be video streaming both rooms on Sat/Sun, including an IRC chat. You can also come to all our outside events and parties where most of the schmoozing happens anyway. Hell, make your own event and post it on the wiki. This is our conference to make.

Ealier today I came across the Vloggercom at SF which clearly
stated everyone interested could attend and no one would be turned away.

However, when I returned home a few hours later (still had the schedule page open) and went to the schedule page, it suprisingly said the tickets were “Sold Out”!

I find this very disturbing and less than ethical. If you
are going to sell tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis, that’s fine but don’t state that no one will be turned away and then suddenly repost a sellout.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed not to be able to
attend, particularly when Vloggercom doesn’t live up to their posted T&Cs.

At a minimum, the website should state the reason for the
    sudden change of policy.

None the less, I wish you the best on Vloggercom

    Regards,

    Michael

    Hey Michael,
All I can do is appologize and try to explain. The wording about “no one will be turned away” was written for two reasons – 1. we didn’t imagine in a million years we would sell out and 2. We debated about how much to charge for tickets realizing that most people would be traveling from out of state if not out of the country and came up with the idea that if you couldn’t afford a ticket that we would work something out (like volunteering).
    Thanks,
    Verdi

It’s also happening inside Second Life. While this might not be the same as attending in RL it’s still something ;-)

I have posted here about it.

(For me it’s too far away anyway althought it would have been cool to attend and meet all these people I only know from their videos).

I think that “no one turned away” really was supposed to mean “no one turned away for lack of funds”. There was no intential change of policy, it just wasn’t as clear as it could have been.

The good news is that sessions in two rooms will be streamed live both days, there is IRC chat and now Second Life. No funds needed!

Yes! I am a videoblogger (I’ve been every weekday since late February at realgodvlog.com) and I’ve been planning on attending for weeks! Please don’t turn me away…I’m God! (see vlog)
    Thanks,
    Curtis

I manage a grassroots, global peace-advocacy website. I stream video and operate a blog. I’d like to attend learn how to best manage video to incorporate into the blog. My disabled wife and I ive in Santa Monica and were planning to drive up from our home in L.A. on Friday evening. Could you be kind enough to help us with admission to vloggercon (we could pay or volunteer)? She just needs a comfortable place to sit without requiring much walking.
    Thank you, with blessings!

hey, this is great, where’s the streaming video going to be? If you are streaming with Darwin or QT streaming, and give me the rtsp address, I can set up a page which has a java chat with the #vloggercon channel, plus a live QT stream, or if you have a little .mov pointer file that points to the rtsp stream.

You can embed a java chat from freejavachat.com (though it appears to not be working right at the moment).

    cheers,
    clark

After looking at Verdi’s Flickr, I’m thoroughly depressed that I’m not there. I hate school and I hate finals. It just gets in the way of life, ya know? ;)

I wish we could set up some sort of video conference thing. But I don’t have an iSight so.. hm.

Perhaps you can print a limited number of passes? Like 40 more, and annouce their availablity between times X and Y.
